Expressive typography is back: and brands are using it to sound more human.
The Boston Fisheries Museum identity shows how custom illustration and illustrative type can give a brand a distinct point of view. Drawing from Boston’s maritime history, the identity uses a fishing-hook typographic detail, emblematic marks, and hand-rendered nautical imagery to create something rooted in place while remaining engaging and relevant for the future.
As more brands move away from generic visual language, custom icons and characterful lettering are becoming strategic tools: not decoration. They help audiences recognize, remember, and connect with an identity across every touchpoint.
The strongest brand systems don’t choose between heritage and relevance. They translate one into the other. ⚓

The right design partner can shape perception long before a development is built. From the first rendering to the final address, every touchpoint is a chance to build recognition, create anticipation, and increase perceived value. At Roycroft Design, we help developers build stronger brands for their properties and create marketing materials that get noticed.

In the "Age of Average," the most powerful tool isn’t an algorithm: it’s a conversation.
We’ve all seen it: the "AI-generated" look that’s slowly flattening the digital landscape. It’s polished, sure. But it often lacks that elusive spark: the human nuance that makes a brand truly resonate.
At Roycroft Design, we’ve spent over 30 years mastering the art of listening. Not just to the words in a brief, but to the gut feelings, the shared stories, and the subtle cues that happen when we sit down together. You can’t prompt an AI to understand the legacy of your business or the specific pride found in the community of the Massachusetts Girls in Trades.
Our work for clients like MGIT isn't just about an invitation; it's about capturing the energy and empathy required for human-centric design. AI might get the pixels right, but it can’t replicate the intuition that comes from decades of partnership and strategic vision.
In a world leaning into the average, we choose the extraordinary. Let’s build something that feels like you.

We are proud to have helped create "Built on Cod", the inaugural exhibit for the @bostonfisheriesmuseum that explores Boston's 400-year fishing history.
Roycroft Design designed a timeline highlighting cod's role in New England's fishing industry along with an informational panel about the Boston Fisheries Museum. We also created supporting marketing materials such as a postcard that promotes both the exhibit and the museum.
You can visit the exhibit now through August 31 at The Cove at Commonwealth Pier (200 Seaport Blvd, Boston MA), open daily from 10am – 6pm.
